About 1,000 China International Import Expo (CIIE) volunteers, dubbed "Little Leaves," have been entering the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) (Shanghai), in groups and at different times for training on voluntary services for the third CIIE to be held from November 5 to 10 in Shanghai.
Through the training, the volunteers have learned about pavilions, exhibition halls and important signs, and have used maps to familiarize themselves with the venues.
About 160 volunteers have also been groomed for consulting work. They quickly learned about venue information and understood their duties, and are fully prepared to handle various inquiries.
The nickname of the CIIE volunteers "little leaves" was the creative idea of the volunteers themselves. The shape of the CIIE venue, the NECC (Shanghai), is like a huge four-leaf clover, where the volunteers work, so the volunteers called themselves "little leaves." The volunteers hoped they can contribute their own efforts to the CIIE since leaves usually take a supporting role for a flower, which symbolizes the voluntary spirit.
The CIIE, which is an annual national-level exhibition themed on imports, has been held since 2018, and attracted more than 3,000 international companies as exhibitors and more than 500,000 professional visitors last year.
